Before Thanksgiving we took Connor for his follow-up ENT appt and he failed his hearing test. This was not shocking because for a few weeks before he started the whole, "HUH" or "What did you say?". Dr. Mehendale mentioned that Connor had fluid on his ears again because the tubes were finally coming out. We kept asking, "We thought the tubes were suppose to help?", but little did we know 40 - 50% of all kids that have tubes put in before the age of 3 have to have a second set. Well, guess which category we fall in? We went back for another hearing test right after Christmas but still no change. Dr. Mehendale recommended tubes and having his adenoids removed. I was all ready to set the appt, but Eric wanted to do some research. We finally had our surgery today. We have been telling Connor that he was going to get his ears fixed. He seemed very relaxed and was actually excited about going to the doctor.
We arrived at the hospital at 5:30 this morning and even though Connor was sleepy he was in great spirits. BUT as soon as the nurses started coming into the emergency room his demeanor changed very quickly. He wanted either Eric, myself or MeMe to hold him. He didn't want them to weigh him or check his height. The only thing he let them do was check his oxygen level, which he is very use to by now. It is the this red light under a bandaid that goes over his finger. He thinks it is pretty cool! After the nurse left he was his happy, chipper self. We finally got to weigh him... 33.8 lbs and height..... 38 inches. Our little baby is growing up. :( Dr. Mehendale brought Connor a green frog that he loved and a really good drink. This is when the whole morning started to become comical (if we had to find something). Within 5 minutes Boogies was already feeling loopy. He could barely sit without falling over. His eyes were half open and he was bouncing off the walls. They finally took him back a little before 7 and that is when I fell apart. This is absolutely the worst part. I paced and paced and paced. At one point the nurse told me that as soon as he was in the recovery ER room I could go back, but she was worried that I was going to be hit by the door when it opened. So more or less she was telling me to move. Now for those who know me, I am not very patience. ESPECIALLY when it comes to my baby. They told me he would be away from us for 20 minutes....... it was more like 30 minutes. More then I was OK with. They came and got Eric and I and we got back just in time. Connor was fighting with the nurse trying to get his oxygen line off his foot and the IV out of his hand. Eric had to hold him tight because he was so out of it he was making no sense. About 10 minutes later he was out again which was good because they could check on his lines and unhook them without the fight. Finally after about 30 minutes back in the recovery room, Boogies woke up and says "Time to go home?" YES YES!!
We were very impressed with how he had started recovering this morning but this afternoon has been harder. He is not use to sitting still so that has been a challenge. We love you Connor and are very proud of you!!!!
